One of the first river access points in the Bingen area, the marina at the Port's "Bingen West" property was funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and created in early 1953 by General Construction at a cost of $42,000. There was even talk, at the time, of developing a small moorage. The single-lane railroad underpass now serving the SDS Lumber mill can be seen in the background directly behind the boat ramp and beyond that, the west end of the City of Bingen. SDS Lumber mill operations appear along the very right edge of the picture. Flooding in late 1964 and early 1965 resulted in significant damage to the faciliites shown here.
