The Port paid $363,245 ($178,245 of which was contributed by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce) to dredge the northwest corner of Bingen Harbor and bring Low Dike "B" along the western edge of the harbor to an elevation of 91 feet. An estimated 80,000 cubic yards of material were removed and placed as fill west of the dike and in the area to become Marina Park. An entrance to the harbor from the southeast had been dredged in October 1962 and that work, combined with the dredging shown here, created Bingen Harbor as it exists today. The Willamette Tug and Barge dredge can be seen in the upper right quarter of the photo. The dikes forming the north and west boundaries of the harbor can be seen in the background with the future home of Marina Park appearing beyond them and just to the right of center.
