River Service
Barge transportation has been an integral part of the Columbia River since the development of the dams and navigation locks along the river and continues to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to road and rail services. The Port provides access to river service through a small terminal facility at its Dallesport Industrial Park. The terminal is located immediately east of The Dalles Dam navigation lock at river mile 192. An adjacent terminal yard is available for short-term storage of incoming or outgoing cargo.

Did You Know?
One typical 4-barge tow moves cargo that would have otherwise required 140 jumbo hopper rail cars or 538 tractor trailers. Because barges get 576 ton-miles to the gallon, they deliver environmentally responsible, fuel efficient, and affordable transportation with the added bonus of reducing road congestion and protecting the Columbia Gorge Airshed.
