Did You Know?
Interstate 84 was once called Interstate 80N. The identifier 80N (for "North") confused drivers and was ultimately changed to 84. The first section of the freeway between Portland and Troutdale was completed in 1955, a full year before the federal interstate system was created. In 2006, an average of over 7,000 trucks travelled I-84 each day at Hood River and over 5,000 trucks each day at The Dalles.
