Climate

Perhaps the weather affects your business operation or maybe you just want to know how often you can be outside playing in the sun or snow. Either way, the information, graphs, and links below will help you learn about the kind of climate you'll find at Bingen Point and Dallesport. Leave the rain behind and come to the sunny side of the Cascades.

Bingen Point

Bingen Point is located at the very western edge of the Columbia River basin which is protected by both the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Cascade Range to the west. These shield the area from the severe storms seen in the central U.S. and from most of the moist air coming in from the Pacific Ocean. Summers are typically warm and dry while winters are moderately cold and damp with occasional rain or snow. Because it sits in the Columbia River gorge, one of the few significant openings in the Cascade Range, it is regularly subject to winds driven by differences in barometric pressure between east and west. Prevailing winds are generally from west to east and can be strong at times (which is why the area is so popular among windsurfers and kiteboarders). Find more information at the Western Regional Climate Center and WeatherUnderground. Note: Because no weather station is located in Bingen, data are for Hood River, Oregon, which is just across the Columbia River and is most similar to Bingen Point in climate.

Dallesport

Dallesport sits in the western part of the Columbia River basin, an area that is protected by both the Rocky Mountains to the east and the Cascade Range to the west. These effectively shield the area from the severe storms seen in the central U.S. and from the moist air coming in from the Pacific Ocean. Summers are typically hot and dry with an occasional thundershower while winters are moderately cold and dry with occasional snow or rain. Dallesport sits on a peninsula in the Columbia River gorge, one of the few significant openings in the Cascade Range. As a result, it is regularly subject to winds driven by differences in barometric pressure between east and west. Prevailing winds are generally from west to east and can be strong at times. Find more information at the Western Regional Climate Center and WeatherUnderground. Note: Because limited weather data is available for Dallesport, some information may be for The Dalles, Oregon, which is just across the Columbia River and is similar to Dallesport in climate.
